2008 Toyota Tundra Engine Control Module Parts Q&A
Q: How to remove and replace the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2008 Toyota Tundra?
A: As a first step to replace or remove the Engine Control Module (ECM) from the 1GR-FE engine control system start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery while waiting at least 90 seconds post-ignition shutdown for the navigation system to save internal memory and settings. Begin by removing the three bolts which fasten the connector holder block to the side to approach the ECM unit. The 2 levers need a push while keeping lock latches at 90 degrees before you disconnect the 2 connectors to safeguard them from breaking. Complete the disconnecting process then remove the 4 bolts that hold the ECM before extracting the module. Before applying gasket remover or equivalent to the rest of the tape on the ECM gasket you should peel off its rubber layers and place a cloth over the ECM connector for protection. Finish the tape removal using a cutter knife which should be used carefully to protect the ECM seal surface.
