2008 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2008 Toyota Tundra?
A: The first step for installing the 1GR-FE engine control system ECM begins with cleaning the ECM seal area with a non-residue solvent before applying a new gasket to the ECM. The installation requires the use of 4 bolts with 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 in-lbf) torque while verifying that the gasket remains unfolded with no foreign substances between the gasket and parts. This step avoids gasket damage. To ensure proper connection of the 2 ECM connectors use your fingers to push down each lock lever before confirming that the levers have raised to a 90 degree angle to prevent terminal and lock lever damage; also avoid wire harness twisting during this period. Secure the connector holder block with three bolts that should be tightened to 7.3 Nm (74 kgf-cm, 65 in-lbf). When connecting the cable to the negative battery terminal users should be aware some systems need to be initialized before the reconnection process completes.
