2009 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove the Engine Control Module (ECM) on 2009 Toyota Tundra?
A: A 90-second period of waiting after ignition off is required before going ahead with the negative battery terminal cable removal for the 1GR-FE engine control system ECM removal process. The connector holder block must lose its three securing bolts so you can move it to succeed in removing the ECM. Both levers should be raised while locked at 90 degrees before disconnecting the connectors to prevent damage to them. When you disconnect the connectors you need to follow by removing the 4 bolts that hold the ECM in place and extract the module. The rubber portion of the towel gasket should be removed before treating the exposed tape section with gasket remover or a comparable product while putting a protective cloth over the ECM connector. To protect the ECM seal use a cutter knife which will safely remove the tape from the surface.
