The first step to replace the crankshaft main bearing seal of the 2GR-FE engine involves removing both 2WD or 4WD automatic transaxle assemblies. Use Special Service Tools 09213-70011 and 09213-70020 to maintain crankshaft position before you detach the 8 bolts along with front spacer, drive plate and rear spacer from the ring gear sub-assembly by using the special tools. The procedure to remove the engine rear oil seal requires the lip to be cut off using a knife after which the oil seal can be pried out using a screwdriver while wrapping tape around the tip for protection against damaging the crankshaft.
