2008 Toyota Sienna Coil Springs Parts Q&A
Q: How to remove the rear coil springs on 2008 Toyota Sienna?
A: Proceeding with rear coil spring removal requires removal of the wheel from the rear. The skid control sensor connector needs disconnection for 2WD while the bolt removal allows disconnecting the bracket from the rear axle beam assembly but 4WD requires bolt and speed sensor rear LH removal. You must first take off both pieces of the exhaust pipe tail assembly then proceed to eliminate the propeller assembly along with the center bearing shaft (Prominently used in 4WD vehicles). Separate the rear drive shaft assembly LH by marking both the differential flange and rear drive shaft assembly LH position and then disconnect the 4 nuts along with the 4 washers. The 4WD installation requires separation of the rear drive shaft assembly RH through equivalent steps. For 4WD vehicles remove the rear differential carrier assembly followed by detaching parking brake cable assembly No.3 with help of the two bolts. Use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to detach parking brake cable assembly No.2 and rear brake tube No.2 from the flexible hose by catching the brake fluid in a container. Next remove the clip followed by the bolt to disconnect the brake tube from the rear axle beam assembly. Apply the previous steps to remove rear brake tube No.1. The next step involves removing the fuel tank filler hose cover through elimination of its 2 bolts, 3 screws, and 3 nuts and subsequent bolt detachment. Follow the previous steps to remove the rear floor No.2 crossmember brace both on the left-hand (LH) and right-hand (RH) side. When loosening the rear axle beam assembly keep the nut stationary without unfastening the bolt or nut. It is important to use a jack to support the rear axle beam assembly before removing the bolt which allows separation of the shock absorber assembly rear LH and requires repeating for the RH side. You can remove the coil spring rear LH by first wrapping a shop rug between the coil spring and the rear axle beam assembly then allowing the jack to lower down to disconnect the coil spring LH before taking out the rear coil spring insulator upper LH from the coil spring rear LH.
