2008 Toyota RAV4 Knock Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the Knock Sensor on 2008 Toyota RAV4?
A: The first step to remove the Knock Sensor from the 2AZ-FE engine control system is to discharge the fuel system pressure. After draining the coolant you must disconnect the negative cable terminal but keep waiting a minimum of 90 seconds before proceeding to prevent Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. Start by taking out the No. 1 engine cover followed by air cleaner cap and throttle body along with the fuel delivery pipe. Detach the fuel tube then unscrew the heater water inlet hose before the hose clamp to separate it from both the heater radiator unit and cylinder head. Detach the heater water outlet hose from the heater radiator unit and water by-pass pipe. Follow these steps: start by disconnecting the union to check valve hose from the brake booster and the camshaft timing oil control valve connector and the wire harness clamp then remove the union to check valve hose from the vacuum hose clamp while proceeding to detach 5 bolts, 2 nuts and finally extracting the intake manifold along with its gasket. Next follow the procedure by extracting the intake manifold insulator off the cylinder block. After sensor connector disconnection the removal can be finished by taking off both the nut alongside sensor.
