2008 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Properly Replace the Oil Filter on 2008 Toyota Prius?
A: The replacement process for the 1NZ-FXE oil filter requires skin protection against engine oil because it creates irritation and dryness while also harboring dangerous substances. During maintenance activities use protective equipment along with gloves while also conducting proper skin wash procedures after completion. Proper sites exist for proper disposal of used oil and oil filters. Start the oil filter replacement by removing the oil filler cap followed by the oil drain plug while collecting drained oil in a receptacle. Clean the oil drain plug before placing a new gasket and tightening it to 38 Nm (387 kgf-cm, 28 ft-lbf). The following step includes oil filter sub-assembly removal using Special Service Tool: 09228-06501. The procedure for oil filter installation begins with cleaning the filter mount surface before applying clean engine oil on the new filter gasket. Next, gently thread the filter onto the seat but do not fully tighten it until you use Special Service Tool: 09228-06501. You should torque the oil filter to 17.5 Nm (178 kgf-cm, 13 ft-lbf) only when there is enough space or if space is limited you can tighten it by hand rotation of 3/4 turn. Fasten the fresh engine oil before reinstalling the oil filler cap.
