2008 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the timing chain on 2008 Toyota Prius?
A: Start the 1NZ-FXE timing chain removal process by taking out the rear No. 2 floor board as well as the rear deck floor box and the rear No. 3 floor board. Technically disconnect the battery terminal cable while waiting at least 90 seconds before proceeding to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. The procedure begins by taking out the radiator support opening cover along with the front wheels together with the No. 3 engine under cover and No. 4 center engine under cover. Remove engine coolant and engine oil from their storage containers. Begin by taking off wiper arm head caps, front wiper arms from both sides and hood to cowl top seal, cowl top ventilator louvers from respective sides, windshield motor with wiper link assembly and front cowl top panel outer. Uninstall the air cleaner assembly through these steps: disconnect the clamp then unplug the intake air flow meter connector, free the wire harness clamp and loosen the clamp and bolt removal. Disassemble the air cleaner system by first removing No. 2 inlet and disconnecting brake cylinder reservoir then removing its bracket. Expert tool 09213-58013 91111-50845 should be used for holding the crankshaft pulley during crankshaft bolt removal while technicians take out the windshield washer jar assembly and cylinder head cover and drive belt and purge VSV and water pump and crankshaft pulley. The repair service requires removal of the engine mounting insulator on the right-hand side plus engine mounting spacer with engine mounting bracket. The mechanic disconnects the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly and pulls out the crankshaft position sensor. First remove the timing chain cover together with the oil pump seal. Setting No. 1 cylinder at TDC/compression requires the crankshaft bolt washer followed by clockwise crankshaft rotation. Proceed by unlocking and pushing into the plunger after lifting the stopper plate. Then you can relock the plunger before lowering the stopper plate to remove the No. 1 chain tensioner. First place a 3.0 mm (0.118 in.) diameter bar into the stopper plate opening before detaching both bolts and chain tensioner. Begin engine chain procedure by removing the tensioner slipper and vibration damper Number 1 followed by uninstalling the chain from its engine compartment.
