2008 Toyota Matrix Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the camshaft on 2008 Toyota Matrix?
A: The first step to extract the 1ZZ-FE engine camshaft involves disconnecting the negative battery terminal along with the removal of the engine under cover on the right-hand side. The repair sequence begins with removal of the cylinder head cover No. 2 followed by dismissal of the ignition coil assembly before taking off the cylinder head cover sub-assembly. The No. 1 cylinder needs to be set at TDC/compression position. Place alignment marks on both timing chain and camshaft timing gears before uninstalling two nuts and chain tensioner but avoid turning the crankshaft without tensioner present. When holding the camshaft with a wrench you should gently loosen the camshaft timing gear set bolt while avoiding damage to the valve lifter. The procedure calls for implementing uniform torque on 11 bolts in their specified order before removing the 5 bearing caps while taking off the camshaft timing gear. The camshaft removal process begins with uniformly loosening and removing 8 bolts according to the specified order and later removing the 4 bearing caps. Remove the camshaft together with its timing gear while holding the timing chain manually then secure the chain with string to avoid any objects falling into the timing chain cover.
