2008 Toyota Matrix Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to reassemble the alternator on 2008 Toyota Matrix?
A: The alternator assembly starts with setting the generator drive end frame onto the generator pulley then inserting the generator rotor into the frame before adding the generator washer. Start by applying a socket wrench 29 and a press to slowly push in the generator rectifier end frame before installing the generator cord clip and tightening Nut A to 4.5 Nm (46 kgf-cm, 40 in-lbf) and Nut B to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf). Fasten the 4 terminal insulators onto each portion of the rectifier end frame. You should start the generator holder assembly by screwing it down with the rectifier then move to the regulator assembly and completing the installation with three screws torqued to 2.0 Nm (20 kgf-cm, 18 in-lbf). Mount the generator plate seal on the rectifier end frame before attaching the brush holder using two 2.0 Nm (20 kgf-cm) screws (2.0 Nm or 18 in-lbf). Proper holder orientation is necessary. After installing the generator brush cover, use 2 nuts at 4.4 Nm (45 kgf-cm, 39 in-lbf) to install the generator rear which leads to attaching the terminal plate with a bolt torqued to 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 in-lbf) and a final step of installing the terminal insulator along with its nut torqued to 4.1 Nm (42 kgf-cm, 36 in-lbf). Begin by mounting the generator pulley on the rotor shaft using hand torque on the pulley nut. Securely hold Special Service Tool1-A with a torque wrench before turning Special Service Tool1-B counterclockwise to reach 39 Nm (400 kgf-cm, 29 ft-lbf) to ensure proper attachment on the rotor shaft. Position Clamp Special Service Tool2 within a vise opening then fit Special Service Tool1-A and B inside it before adding the pulley nut and apply torque using Special Service Tool1-A following the indicated sequence until it reaches 111 Nm (1,132 kgf-cm, 82 ft-lbf). To finish the process remove the generator from Special Service Tool2 before turning Special Service Tool1-B and separating Special Service Tool1-A and B to verify smooth operation of the generator pulley.
