2007 Toyota Matrix Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the alternator on 2007 Toyota Matrix?
A: The alternator removal process begins by detaching the negative battery terminal before removing the engine under cover right-hand side. Next, the fan and generator V belt need to be removed before proceeding. The generator assembly removal procedure includes disassembling the terminal cap No. 2 followed by removing the nut [B] to release the generator wire whiledisconnecting the generator connector [C] and removing the wire harness clamp [D] and A/C connector [E] and finishing by removing the 2 bolts to extract the generator unit. You should install the generator assembly into place while using two bolts that need a torque setting of 25 N.m (250 kgf.cm, 18 ft.lbf) for Bolt A and 54 N.m (550 kgf.cm, 40 ft.lbf) for Bolt B. The A/C connector should be connected first as a step before installing the wire harness clamp and generator connector followed by generator wire wiring with the nut [E] which requires 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm; 7 ft.lbf) torque. The last step includes terminal cap No. 2 installation along with the fan and generator V belt and engine under cover RH and the reconnection of the battery negative terminal with a torque setting of 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf).
