2008 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the windshield on 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: As a first step before removing the windshield disconnect the negative terminal cable from the battery and wait 90 seconds to disable the SRS system. Start windshield replacement by taking off the upper radiator support seal together with front fender main seals (both left and right sides), front wiper arms (left and right sides) then the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly. To remove windshield outside mouldings from their positions (LH and RH) apply protective tape while using a moulding remover to detach clips while safeguarding the roof drip side finish moulding clip labeled A. Then eliminate the No. 4 windshield moulding pads and drill off flanges from any No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips using a 4 mm (0.157 in.) drill bit covered with tape before vacuuming away the fragments. Remove the roof drip side finish moulding clips followed by the front assist grip sub-assembly while also removing the front pillar garnishes (LH and RH), map light assembly, visor bracket cover, visor assemblies (LH and RH) and their holder and center assemblies (LH and RH) with the inner rear view mirror assembly then partially lower the roof headlining. Begin by cutting the windshield outside moulding with a knife followed by glass removal through a method which requires protective tape on the vehicle body and piano wire placed between glass and body to which handles are tied and glass is efficiently separated maintaining paint and ornament integrity. The first step is disconnecting the windshield deicer connector if present followed by cutting through the adhesive with piano wire and stopping the stoppers before using suction cups to remove the glass. A scraper enables removal of the No. 2 windshield glass stoppers and adhesive dam while a scraper assists in taking out the front inner window moulding cover (LH). Thoroughly clean the windshield glass before removing stopper damage and eliminating adhesive and dam while using non-residue solvent on the glass edges but preventing glass contact. The cleaning process ends with removing excess adhesive from the vehicle body then cleaning its surface with a cleaner while keeping maximum adhesive on the body.
