2009 Toyota Land Cruiser Windshield Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the windshield on 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The SRS system requires at least 90 seconds of disabling before one can disconnect the negative battery terminal cable. The removal process begins by discarding the upper radiator support seal together with both front fender main seals (LH and RH) and the front wiper arms (LH and RH) and the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly. Use protective tape before you use a moulding remover to detach the clips on the windshield outside moulding (LH and RH) while also protecting the roof drip side finish moulding clip labeled A. Then remove the No. 4 windshield moulding pads and drill off the flanges of any No. 3 windshield outside moulding clips using a 4 mm (0.157 in.) drill bit with tape to prevent over-drilling before vacuuming the fragments. After protecting the roof drip side finish moulding clips with tape, technicians should also disassemble the front assist grip sub-assembly, front pillar garnishes (LH and RH) as well as the map light assembly, visor bracket cover, visor assemblies (LH and RH), visor holder, center visor assemblies (LH and RH) and inner rear view mirror stay holder cover and inner rear view mirror assembly. The roof headlining should be partially dropped down at this point. To remove a windshield glass workers should cut the outside moulding with a knife before using protective tape to secure the vehicle body and inserting a piano wire between glass and body to separate the windshield from the vehicle while maintaining guard against paint or ornaments damage. The windshield deicer connection should be disconnected if present while matchmarks must be placed before glass reuse and stoppers need removal to use suction cups for glass extraction. You should start by taking off the No. 2 windshield glass stopper followed by the adhesive dam before removing the front inner window moulding cover (LH). Wash the windshield glass by removing any broken stoppers and adhesive but keep away from the glass surface while using a solvent without residue to clean its edges. The last step involves taking out windshield glass stoppers while cleaning both body structures by molding the contact surfaces then cutting off extra adhesive before cleaning the contact area with a solution that preserves as much adhesive as possible on the body surface.
