2008 Toyota Camry Power Steering Pump Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Power Steering Pump on 2008 Toyota Camry?
A: You should start service or repair of a 2AZ-FE vane pump by securing the assembly with Special Service Tool: 09630-00014 09631-00132 in a vise. First cut the bolt and power steering suction port union from the assembly and then extract the O-ring from the union using a screwdriver. Before replacement of this assembly it is necessary to remove the power steering fluid pressure switch. The service process begins by removing the pressure port union together with its O-ring then continues with the removal of the flow control valve assembly and the flow control valve compression spring. Tape the screwdriver tip before using it to detach the O-ring from the vane pump rear housing by removing the 4 rear housing bolts from the front housing. The vane pump shaft with pulley needs 2 screwdrivers to take out the snap ring before extracting the shaft. First remove the 10 plates from the vane pump and the rotor and the vane pump cam ring from the front housing. You should detach the vane pump front side plate while removing its O-ring with a screwdriver that needs tape on the tip since you will also take the O-ring out of the front housing. A combination of screwdriver and shop rag or cloth will enable you to extract the vane pump housing oil seal from its position without injuring the front housing.
