2008 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to disassemble the Power Steering Pump on 2008 Toyota Avalon?
A: The first step of power steering vane pump disassembly requires establishing the vane pump assembly in a vise through the use of Special Service Tools: 09630-00014 09631-00132. First remove the bolt along with the power steering suction port union from the assembly before extracting its O-ring and power steering pressure port union with its O-ring. Remove the pressure port union by itself next to its O-ring after which separate the flow control valve from the compression spring. Separate the power steering oil pressure switch from the vane pump housing using a screwdriver to remove its O-ring because switch replacement will be necessary if the switch shows damage. Drain the vane pump housing by disconnecting both its 4 bolts and its rear housing O-ring. Use two screwdrivers to succeed in removing the snap ring before extracting the sub-assembly from the pulley shaft. The mechanical process starts with removing 10 vane pump plates then removing the vane pump rotor followed by the vane pump cam ring. The vane pump side plate front needs to be detached from the housing front while removing the O-rings from both sides of the assembly before extracting the vane pump housing oil seal with a screwdriver to prevent damage to the vane pump housing front.
