2008 Toyota 4Runner Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the knock sensor on 2008 Toyota 4Runner?
A: The first step to disconnect the knock sensor from a 2UZ-FE engine control system includes a fuel system pressure discharge and engine coolant drain. You need to remove the throttle body cover sub-assembly by performing the task of removing its two nuts. The power steering idle-up vacuum hose and the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose along with the ventilation hose must be detached for air cleaner hose assembly removal. First disconnect the components that include the fuel hose together with fuel hose number two. First detach all connectors from the intake manifold by removing the throttle control connector, purge VSV, 8 injector connectors, ECT sensor connector, 2 VSV connectors for the air injection system and 8 ignition coil connectors and 2 air fuel ratio sensor connectors. Hose removal starts with disconnecting the vacuum connector linking fuel pressure regulator to intake manifold combined with PCV hoses leading to PCV valve installed on LH cylinder head along with EVAP hose tied to purge VSV next to 2 vacuum hoses connected to VSV powering air injection system. The intake manifold removal process begins with a throttle body disconnect of the two water by-pass hoses followed by removing the two wire clamps from the wire clamp bracket on the RH delivery pipe and finishing with bolt and nut removal that holds the engine wire protector to the intake manifold and cylinder head. The repair process begins by unfastening both ground cables and 2 bolts on each RH and LH cylinder head while also removing the bolt and V-bank cover bracket from the intake manifold after disconnecting the engine wire from the engine hanger and wire bracket then finishing with the removal of the bolt and wire bracket from the intake manifold alongside its 6 bolts, 4 nuts and intake manifold assembly and 2 gaskets. Detach the air pump assembly with its bracket afterwards. To complete the task disconnect the knock sensor connectors then remove the 2 nuts and 2 knock sensors.
