The 2UZ-FE engine camshaft replacement requires draining coolant then removing the negative battery terminal cable first. The service requires removal of the throttle body cover sub-assembly as well as the air cleaner hose assembly, radiator support seal upper, fan and generator V belt, fan with fluid coupling, and vane pump assembly separation. Start by removing the generator assembly and dividing the compressor before taking off the No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly with its oil cooler pipe, No. 3 timing belt cover sub-assembly LH, No. 2 timing chain or belt cover, No. 2 timing belt cover sub-assembly, V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly, fan bracket sub-assembly, crankshaft damper sub-assembly, No. 1 timing belt cover and No. 1 crankshaft position sensor plate. Uninstall timing belt and ignition coil assembly through the removal of 4 ignition coil connectors before taking out 4 bolts and ignition coils. Remove the cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH by removing its 9 bolts and 9 seal washers before proceeding to take out the camshaft timing pulley sub-assembly LH while carefully holding the camshaft with a wrench during bolt removal. Maintain the camshaft in a horizontal position when taking off the No. 3 and No. 4 camshaft sub-assembly and the camshaft position sensor. Captivate the correct positioning for the crankshaft pulley and reposition the sub gear service bolt hole upward to attach both gears using a service bolt. Position the timing marks of the drive gear with the driven gear afterward evenly loosen and remove the specified sequence of 22 bearing cap bolts. Chose to remove the oil feed pipe first and then proceed with the camshaft housing plug followed by the oil control valve filter and 9 bearing caps as well as the camshafts. Maintain proper order of parts removal. Place the hexagonal section of the camshaft between the vise jets but keep the 4 essential bolts that stabilize the timing tube assembly in place. Use a 10 mm hexagon wrench to remove the bolt and seperate the screw plug from the timing tube and drive gear which is attached to the camshaft. Use 09960-10010 and 09962-01000 Special Service Tools along with a 5 mm hexagonal wrench to take out 4 bolts and the drive gear and oil seal by maintaining safety for the timing tube. End the sub gear installation by placing the hexagonal portion into a vise and rotating the sub gear clockwise to remove the service bolt with Special Service Tool: 09960-10010, 09962-01000 and using snap ring pliers to extract the snap ring and then waving the washer and sub gear before removing the gear spring. Use a ruler to check the gear spring gap distance which needs replacement when it falls outside of 18.2 to 18.8 mm (0.717 to 0.740 in.).
