2008 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the radiator and its components on 2008 Scion xB?
A: Start by mounting the fan shroud to its place using 2 bolts before tightening them to 7.0 Nm (71 kgf-cm, 62 in-lbf). First install the outlet radiator hose while you move to the inlet radiator hose before locking the hose clamp onto the fan shroud. Begin by attaching the 2 radiator supports to the radiator and place the radiator on the vehicle before connecting its Automatic Transaxle oil cooler hoses. Install the condenser followed by the air conditioning tube and accessory assembly and discharge hose sub-assembly. Install first the No. 1 water by-pass hose on the radiator until you move to the No. 2 fan shroud which requires 2 bolts with a torque value of 7.0 Nm (71 kgf-cm, 62 in-lbf). Lastly, connect the 2 fan motor connectors. Secure the 2 radiator support cushions onto the No. 2 fan shroud and connect outlet and inlet radiator hoses while activating the heated oxygen sensor wire harness clamp. The hood lock support needs to be installed with 4 bolts tightened to 13 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf) then the 2 hone connectors should be connected. Follow the instructions to install the hood lock control cable which includes placing its clamp on the hood lock support followed by mounting the No. 1 water hose clamp bracket with 2 bolts torqued to 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 in-lbf) while connecting both water hoses. Attach the front bumper cover together with radiator grille and No. 1 radiator grille garnish to the vehicle. The battery setup requires the battery tray followed by the battery then the battery insulator before tightening the battery carrier bolt to 17 Nm (168 kgf-cm, 12 ft-lbf) while torquing the nut to 3.5 Nm (35 kgf-cm, 31 in-lbf). Afterwards connect the positive and negative terminals with a torque of 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf). Engine coolant should be added while the vehicle is warmed up after charging refrigerant and inspecting for coolant and refrigerant leaks. The maintenance process concludes by putting in place the hood while inspecting its performance and making needed adjustments.
