2008 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly and related components on 2008 Scion tC?
A: The installation process for the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly starts with connecting it to the parking brake cable equalizer while using 4 bolts which need to be torqued to 6.0 Nm (61 kgf-cm, 53 in-lbf) for bolt A and 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf) for bolt B. The installation of the No. 1 fuel tank protector requires 5 bolts which need to be tightened to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf). The No. 3 parking brake cable assembly receives connection to the backing plate through a bolt which requires 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 in-lbf) torque. Implement high-temp grease before installing the parking brake shoe lever LH, parking brake shoe assembly LH, parking brake shoe adjusting screw set and parking brake shoe strut LH in sequence. The vehicle requires workers to position the rear disc brake cylinder assembly LH with the rear disc brake cylinder mounting LH while installing the rear disc. After proper clearance adjustment of the parking brake shoes, install the rear wheel by torquing it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf). Install the No. 1 parking brake cable assembly while torquing its two bolts to 12.5 Nm (128 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf) and then install the floor carpet before connecting the parking brake cable to the equalizer. Fasten the parking brake cable heat insulator through two nuts while torquing them to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf). The process of installation requires the center exhaust pipe assembly combined with the parking brake lever sub-assembly and the front seat assembly RH followed by the cowl side trim sub-assembly RH, front door scuff plate RH, rear console box assembly, rear upper console panel sub-assembly, front upper console panel sub-assembly and shift lever knob sub-assembly (for manual transaxle). After establishing connection to the negative battery terminal be aware that particular systems may need initial setup procedures. The ABS sensor signal should be checked while technicians settle the parking brake wheel and disc before they both check and set the parking brake lever travel along with examining for exhaust gas leaks.
