2009 Scion tC Parking Brake Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the parking brake cable on 2009 Scion tC?
A: The procedure to remove the parking brake cable starts with disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable but requires at least 90 seconds of waiting time to stop Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. Similar methods should be applied during the removal of the No. 2 parking brake cable as was used for the No. 3 cable. The service process starts with removing the shift lever knob sub-assembly for manual transaxle. Then remove the front upper console panel sub-assembly. Lastly, finish the sequence by removing the rear upper console panel sub-assembly followed by the rear console box sub-assembly. Users need to remove parking brake lever as well as front door scuff plate RH and cowl side trim sub-assembly RH. Start by removing the front seat assembly RH and center exhaust pipe assembly while also taking away the parking brake cable heat insulator by doing away with the two nuts. Separate the No. 1 parking brake cable assembly from the parking brake equalizer before turning back your floor carpet for dismantling the 2 bolts which secure the parking brake cable. First remove the rear wheel after you have taken off the rear disc brake cylinder mounting LH with its attached rear disc brake cylinder assembly LH followed by the removal of the rear disc. The service technician should begin by dissembling the vehicle with removal of the parking brake shoe strut LH followed by removal of the parking brake shoe adjusting screw set and then the parking brake shoe assembly LH and finally the parking brake shoe lever LH. While working on the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly you must first remove the bolt before disconnecting it from the backing plate followed by separate removal of the No. 1 fuel tank protector which uses 5 bolts before proceeding with the removal of the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly through disconnecting its body connection at the parking brake equalizer.
