2007 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the PARK/NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH on 2007 Toyota Tacoma?
A: Service and repair of the PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH requires disconnecting the battery cable from both negative and park/neutral position switch connectors followed by unlocking and removing the park/neutral position switch assembly through unstaking with a screwdriver for the lock washer before removing the nut and lock washer and grommet and bolt. The parking brake must be engaged followed by an ON ignition switch setting to check that the engine starts properly while being restricted to N or P positions only while the Back Up light and reverse warning buzzer function in the R position; continuous electrical signal verification must also be performed following any detected failures. Adjust the assembly through the following procedure: loosen the bolt, place the shift lever at N position, match the neutral basic line with the groove and position the switch correctly before torquing the bolt to 13 N m (130 kgf cm, 9 ft. lbf). Proceed with the second inspection. To install the park/neutral position switch you need to mount it onto the manual valve lever shaft and then perform a temporary adjusting bolt tightening before adding the grommet and new lock washer as well as the nut with a torque of 6.9 N m (70 kgf cm, 61 in. lbf). After fitting the manual valve lever shaft into the groove position it at a 2-notch counterclockwise rotation for the neutral stage while aligning the switch groove basic line and tightening the adjusting bolt to 13 N m (130 kgf cm, 9 ft. lbf) with at least 2 tabs of the lock washer bent. To complete the procedure connect the park/neutral position switch connector then reattach the cable to the negative battery terminal following a torque of 3.9 N m (40 kgf cm, 35 in. lbf). Inspect and readjust both the shift lever position and the park/neutral position switch assembly before concluding the work.
