Check spider bearings of the propeller shaft universal joint for wear patterns and damage then inspect the axial movement with a maximum allowance of 0 to 0.05 mm (0 to 0.002 inch). If any problems are detected the bearing must be replaced. For spider bearing extraction first label the propeller shaft along with the universal joint yoke then use a brass bar on the spider bearing followed by needle-nose pliers to take out the 4 snap rings. Push the spider bearing out from the propeller shaft using SST 09332-25010 tool while maintaining the shaft tube undamaged. The tool needs to go between aluminum plates for securing the propeller shaft inside a vise. First separate the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly from the propeller shaft assembly. Reposition the 2 original spider bearings on the spider and advance the yoke bearing from the yoke using SST 09332-25010. Set the yoke within the center bearing section onto a vice for unlocking the lock nut by using a chisel and hammer. Mark the yoke and shaft before removing the center yoke together with spacer and center support bearing from the intermediate shaft. A dial indicator must inspect the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly to measure runout; repair or replace if the measurement exceeds 0.6 mm (0.024 inch). When testing the center support bearing assembly for smooth operation it is essential to replace all discovered defective components. The installation process begins with filling the center support bearing splines with MP grease No. 2 before aligning the matchmarks and inserting the spacer onto the intermediary shaft. Place the yoke in the vise and use a new bearing which you will torque to 182 Nm (1,850 kgf-cm, 134 ft. lbs.) then re-torque to 69 Nm (700 kgf-cm, 51 ft. lbs.) before staking the lock nut. First apply MP grease No. 2 to uninstalled spider and bearings components. Then insert the spider into the flange yoke and measure the dimensions A and B before selecting snap rings of matching dimensions. Use new snap rings with equivalent thickness when possible. Use SST 09332-25010 tools to guide spider bearing insertion in the yoke snap ring grooves equally for both sides without damaging the bearing lip. After installing new snap rings into the yoke grooves you need to check spider bearings for wear along with their axial play before you finish the installation by removing SST from the extension housing to enable propeller shaft assembly with 4 bolts, 4 nuts and 4 washers torqued to 88 Nm (899 kgf-cm, 65 ft. lbs.). Install the provisionally the center support bearing after inserting two mounting bolts but position the drain hole at the bottom to adjust the bearing at proper intervals and torque the bolts to 36 Nm (369 kgf-cm, 27 ft. lbs.). Check for transmission oil leakages as the last step.
