2007 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the camshaft on 2007 Toyota Solara?
A: You need to start camshaft maintenance by removing the front wheel RH along with the front fender apron seal RH and engine cover sub-assembly No.1, spark plug, ventilation hoses, engine wire, and cylinder head cover sub-assembly while disconnecting the engine wire harness clamp and removing all bolts and nuts. The crankshaft pulley requires adjustment to align its groove with the timing mark 0 of the timing chain cover while ensuring that the bearing caps contain their respective camshaft timing marks. At this point, place paint marks on the timing chain as well. Complete the removal of No.1 chain tensioner assembly by taking off its 2 nuts and tensioner and gasket while maintaining the crankshaft stationary. Fasten the wrench on the No.2 camshaft before loosening its bolt. Proceed to remove the bearing cap bolts in proper order until you can lift away the camshaft along with the sprocket bolt to disconnect the camshaft timing sprocket from the No.2 camshaft. First loosen bearing cap bolts on the camshaft following specific order then remove the camshaft and secure the timing chain using a string without letting anything fall into the timing chain cover. Position the No.1 camshaft in a vise then tape all pathways except the advanced side before using air pressure of 150 kPa (1.5 kgf-cm, 21 psi) at the advanced angle port to allow manual rotation of the camshaft timing gear at the advanced position. Severely loosen and remove the fringe bolt from the camshaft timing gear without extracting the remaining four bolts. To install place the camshaft timing gear against the camshaft then rotate it gently under light pressure before confirming the fringe of the gear meets the camshaft without clearance then tighten the fringe bolt to 54 Nm (551 kgf-cm, 40 ft. lbs.). After positioning the timing chain on the camshaft timing gear implement the painted mark alignment with the timing marks then add bearing caps together with bolts and apply torques according to specifications. When installing the sprocket bolt it is essential to keep the painted chain mark aligned with the camshaft timing sprocket timing mark then confirm the sprocket bolt reaches 54 Nm (551 kgf-cm, 40 ft. lbs.) torque without harming the valve lifter. Verify that all paint marks on both pulleys and their grooves point correctly to the timing mark on the chain cover. We need to install the No.1 chain tensioner assembly by initially raising the ratchet pawl followed by pushing the plunger and hooking the pin then we should use new gasket material and 2 nuts to secure the tensioner while tightening to 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.). When checking the plunger knock pin during crankshaft counterclockwise rotation, complete the process by turning the crankshaft clockwise to make sure the plunger pushes the slipper. Conclude by installing the cylinder head cover sub-assembly after removing old packing then applying seal packing (Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1344 or equivalent Three Bond 1344 into specified areas followed by 8 bolt and 2 nut installation at 11 Nm (110 kgf-cm, 8 ft. lbs.). Reconnect the engine wire then install the spark plug with 19 Nm torque before reinstalling the front wheel on the right-hand side and checking for any oil leaks.
