  A: Your service of the Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring should begin by properly understanding all the information in the Restraint Systems Service Precautions document. Wait for 90 seconds after battery cable removal from the negative terminal to avoid Air Bag deployment. First position the front wheels in a straight-ahead direction. Next remove starting with the Steering Wheel No.3 Cover Lower and then the Steering Wheel No.2 Cover Lower, Steering Pad, Steering Wheel Assembly and finally remove the Steering Column Cover by detaching its 2 screws. Detach connectors from the clock spring while shielding the Air Bag wire harness from damage and then dislodge the clock spring with its 3 claws to accomplish removal. To prevent pin damage install the parts when front wheels face forward and turn signal switch stands at the neutral position. Reattach the connectors after installing the clock spring while removing the lock pin only if replacing it with a new one.
