2006 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you service the Clock Spring Assembly / Spiral Cable on 2006 Toyota Sienna?
A: Service of the Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring requires reading all safety warnings pertaining to Air Bags first. Disconnect the negative battery cable while waiting for 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag activation. Start by positioning the vehicles wheels forward and then remove the steering wheel cover numbered No.3 followed by No.2 and the steering pad before the steering wheel assembly and lastly the steering column cover using its two screws. Before lifting the clock spring separate its connectors while protecting the Air Bag wire harness and free the three claws to take out the clock spring. When installing the clock spring keep the front wheels parallel and the turn signal switch at neutral position to maintain the pin from breaking. The clock spring installation requires removing any lock pin during new part replacement while reconnecting all connectors with special care paid to the Air Bag wire harness. Install the steering column cover securing it with the 2 screws and follow up by verifying an off position on the ignition switch together with negative battery terminal detachment before proceeding after at least 90 seconds of wait time. Begin turning the clock spring in a counter-clockwise motion until it becomes firm before proceeding to clockwise rotation of 2.5 turns to align the marked positions. Avoid turning the cable by the Air Bag wire harness during this process. Follow by putting on the steering wheel assembly and check the steering wheel center point alignment before returning the steering pad and steering wheel covers No.2 and No.3. The cable must be reconnected to the negative terminal followed by pad inspection and initialization which might be necessary due to negative terminal disconnect. Conclude the inspection process by checking the SRS warning light.
