2007 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the exhaust pipe on 2007 Toyota Prius?
A: The process of exhaust pipe service starts by removing the rear No. 2 floor board together with rear deck floor box and rear No. 3 floor board. Follow the steps by disconnecting the negative battery cable while keeping a 90-second wait period to avoid triggering the Air Bags along with seat belt pretensioners. The service begins by taking bolts from the instrument panel finish panel lower center together with heated oxygen sensor and front floor panel brace. Remove the tailpipe assembly after disconnecting its 2 bolts and 2 compression springs to detach the tailpipe from the 2 exhaust supports and eliminate the gasket on the front exhaust pipe. Remove the 2 front exhaust pipe assembly bolts with 2 compression springs before detaching this assembly from its 2 exhaust pipe supports to take off the gasket attached to the exhaust manifold. To install the front exhaust pipe assembly undertake measurements with a vernier caliper for the free compression spring length at 40.5 mm (1.594 inch). If the length is less than this replacement is required. .Utility a plastic-faced hammer with a wooden block to settle a new gasket against the exhaust manifold until it reaches flush position. Only replace the gasket instead of using it repeatedly. Install the exhaust pipe between the two supports and add the compression springs and bolts which need to be tightened to 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). When measuring the compression spring length for the tailpipe assembly test it against at least 38.5 mm (1.516 inch) and change it if it is shorter. Attach a replacement gasket to the front exhaust pipe while connecting the two pipe supports which you should bolt to the tailpipe using two compression springs torqued to 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). Install the front floor panel brace using 2 bolts at 30 Nm torque (302 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.) and put on the heated oxygen sensor with the instrument panel finish panel lower center. Check the exhaust gas leaks by reconnecting the negative battery terminal cable while also tightening affected areas to replace any defective components. Installation of the rear components should begin with the No. 3 floor board followed by the deck floor box and the No. 2 floor board after system initialization becomes necessary upon battery terminal disconnection.
