2007 Toyota Matrix Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the clutch master cylinder on 2007 Toyota Matrix?
A: For clutch master cylinder service and repair you should drain fluid first then uninstall the brake master cylinder sub-assembly together with the brake booster assembly. The clutch reservoir tube requires detachment by untightening the clip as you collect fluid through a suitable vessel. The next step involves using Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to disconnect the clutch master cylinder from the flexible hose tube while placing fluid into a suitable container. First disconnect the clutch pedal spring without rotating it before you take out the hole pin and clip of the clutch master cylinder push rod clevis. Unthread the two nuts from the clutch master cylinder assembly before removal. Disassembly starts by using a pin punch with a hammer to drive out the slotted spring pin from the clutch master cylinder kit then unmount its inlet union with grommet and loosen the lock nut to detach the clevis and lock nut from the push rod. Push the push rod as you install snap ring pliers to remove the snap ring and then the push rod from the cylinder body through the cylinder opening while taking care because the piston might escape. You should remove the stop plate together with the piston including its spring from the cylinder without hurting the cylinder body interior. To assemble the parts begin by applying lithium soap base glycol grease on them before inserting the piston with spring into the cylinder. Next mount the stop plate onto the push rod followed by pushing the push rod into the cylinder body. When pushing the push rod into position you should first use snap ring pliers to install the snap ring then add the boot and apply the lock nut followed by temporary installation of the clevis onto the push rod using the lock nut. After applying new grommet into the inlet union, drive in the slotted spring pin using appropriate tools. To install the clutch master cylinder assembly secure the two nuts to 12 Nm torque (120 kgf/cm, 9 ft. lbs.) while you connect the push rod clutch master cylinder clevis with its hole pin through surface application of MP grease. Ensure to install the pin from the right side then secure it using the clip. Attach the clutch master cylinder to the flexible hose tube through Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 and torque the connection to 15 Nm (155 kgf/cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Also attach the clutch reservoir tube with a clip that should have the white mark positioned upwards. The brake system requires reinstallation of both assemblies before performing a brake line and clutch pipe line bleed operation using clutch fluid to fill the reservoir tank. The clutch line must get torqued to 8.4 Nm (85 kgf/cm, 74 in. lbs.) before checking brake pedal height and clutch pedal sub-assembly components for leaks while ensuring the reservoir contains the right amount of fluid.
