2006 Toyota Matrix Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to overhaul the Clutch Master Cylinder on 2006 Toyota Matrix?
A: The process starts by draining clutch fluid followed by brake master cylinder sub-assembly along with brake booster assembly removal. Open the clutch reservoir tube by removing its secure clip while collecting fluid through a container. Next disconnect the clutch master cylinder to flexible hose tube using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 while pouring the fluid into a container. Take out the clutch pedal spring without adjusting its orientation before you extract the clutch master cylinder push rod clevis along with its hole pin through clip removal and pin extraction. Uninstall the clutch master cylinder assembly through removal of its 2 nuts. Drive a pin punch through the slotted spring pin followed by hammer use to remove it then remove the inlet union and grommet then loosen and remove the clevis followed by taking off the push rod lock nut then remove the boot from the cylinder body. Tread the push rod carefully while using snap ring pliers to extract the snap ring followed by removing the push rod from the cylinder body. Watch out for the possible piston to eject during this process. Clear the cylinder body of inner damage by putting away the piston with spring and stop plate from the push rod. Lithium soap base glycol grease should be applied to parts before installing the piston with spring inside the cylinder followed by attaching the stop plate to the push rod and inserting the push rod into the cylinder body. Use snap ring pliers to install the indicated parts when inserting the push rod. Afterward, place the boot onto the cylinder body before applying the lock nut to the push rod. Next, you must first fasten the clevis using the lock nut to the push rod before installing the inlet union and new grommet along with driving in the slotted spring pin. To install the clutch master cylinder assembly the technician must tighten its 2 nuts to 11.8 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) using a torque wrench. Connect the clevis to the clutch pedal sub-assembly through the hole pin while inserting the hole pin from the right side of the vehicle then install the clip to the hole pin after applying MP grease to the clevis bush contact surface. Reinstall the clutch pedal spring without rotation before you attach the flexible hose tube to the clutch master cylinder while using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 and tightening it to 15.2 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Install the clutch reservoir tube with the clip on the clutch master cylinder assembly while positioning the white mark in an upward direction. After reinstalling the brake master cylinder sub-assembly together with the brake booster assembly it is necessary to bleed the brake line and clutch pipe line by filling the brake reservoir tank with clutch fluid. The technician will torque the clutch pipe line to 8.4 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 73 inch lbs.), perform brake pedal height testing and adjustments followed by clutch pedal sub-assembly inspection for adjustment potential. The technician will also check for fluid leaks and verify the reservoir fluid level.
