2007 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the front shock absorber on 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Service and repair of the front shock absorber starts with draining the active height control suspension fluid by attaching a hose to the damping force control actuator bleeder plug and opening the plug but tightening it after the fluid drains to a pressure drop. Service personnel should start by removing the front wheel with a torque of 131 Nm and later removing the front fender apron sub-assembly and finally disconnecting the front shock absorber assembly from the lower arm suspension arm with a torque of 135 Nm (1,400 kgf-cm, 101 ft. lbs.). The pressure hose requires a torque of 18 Nm while O-ring and back up ring removal precedes new ring installation. Grip the cushion before removing the nut, cushion and retainer while removing the shock absorber with a 78 Nm torque (795 kgf-cm, 57 ft.lbs.). The shock absorber and its components must then be separated. Stretch and release the shock absorber rod to detect odd sounds and resistance during testing while replacing the device in case of any abnormal readings. The front shock absorber bush should be removed by utilizing Special Service Tools 09710-14013 (09710-00061) and 09710-28012 (09710-07031) along with 09950-70010 (09951-07100) and a press to install a new bush using the same tools. The AHC system installation requires the reverse sequence of removal while filling the AHC pump & motor reservoir with suspension fluid AHC followed by AHC system bleeding and leak inspection. To dispose of the shock absorber create a 2 to 3 millimeter (0.079 inch to 0.118 inch) diameter hole to release gas inside while handling chips carefully because the gas has no smell or harmful effects.
