2007 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you service the Clock Spring Assembly / Spiral Cable on 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Service of the Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring requires users to disconnect the negative battery terminal cable for a minimum of 90 seconds to avoid activating Air Bag and seat belt pretensioners. The Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring can be serviced by dismantling the steering pad assembly, steering wheel assembly, front door scuff plate LH, cowl side trim board LH, front door opening trim Weather Strip LH, instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly and No. 1 lower panel and steering column cover. Start the clock spring removal process by disconnecting the connectors from the clock spring while being vigilant about the Air Bag wire harness safety and then removing four screws to extract the clock spring sub-assembly. To complete the installation process verify that front wheels are facing forward before installing the clock spring with its four screws and connecting its connectors to the clock spring while being cautious with the Air Bag wire harness. The installation sequence includes the stepper motor cover followed by No. 1 lower panel and instrument cluster finish panel sub-assembly as well as front door opening trim Weather Strip LH and cowl side trim board LH and front door scuff plate LH. From a firm stance the mechanic should turn the clock spring counterclockwise until it reaches a firm position before continuing with clockwise rotation of 2.5 turns to align the marks without touching the Air Bag wire harness. Installation of the steering wheel assembly begins with fitting both components along with reconnecting the cable to the negative battery terminal followed by system initialization procedures that become necessary after removing and reattaching the cable. The last step involves examining the SRS warning light together with the position of the steering wheel.
