2007 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and install a seat belt while ensuring safety and proper functionality on 2007 Toyota Highlander?
A: Disabling the negative cable from the battery while letting the system wait for 90 seconds is necessary before removing the seat belt. The front door needs its scuff plate and opening trim Weather Strip as well as the rear door scuff plate and opening trim Weather Strip and center pillar garnish lower to be taken out. Start by unlatching the 2 claws that secure the lap belt outer anchor cover then continue with removing the seat belt anchor cover cap which can be detached by a screwdriver before securing tape to the screwdriver tip. Please follow the steps to disconnect the front seat outer belt assembly which include the LOCK position on the ignition switch and bolt at floor end and shoulder anchor removal followed by locking tab pretensioner connector disconnection. Repeat the step of taping the screwdriver tip. Then disconnect the tension reducer connector. The front seat outer belt assembly installation requires checking the ELR lock progression for degrees of belt extension beyond 45 as well as a minimum of 15 degrees. Then proceed with bolt replacement at both ends to finalize the installation. Connect the pretensioner and tension reducer connectors to the front seat outer belt assembly after tightening both upper and lower bolts to specific torque values of 7.5 N.m (77 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf) and 42 N.m (428 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf) respectively. Ensure that the locking tab remains securely locked. Check the ELR function by pulling the belt quickly after both shoulder anchor and floor end front seat outer belt assembly installations which require 42 N.m (428 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf) torque. Reattach the negative battery cable after completing all seat belt installation steps which include the cap of the anchor cover, outer cover of the lap belt, center pillar garnish, rear door trim Weather Strip, scuff plate and front door Weather Strip followed by inspection of SRS warning light.
