2007 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the rear Sway Bar Kit on 2007 Scion tC?
A: Starting the rear sway bar kit repair involves first removing the rear sway bar link assembly LH by unscrewing the 2 nuts; yet if ball joint rotation occurs with the nuts use a 5 mm hexagon wrench to secure the stud. The servicing of rear sway bar link assembly RH should proceed similarly to the process used for LH components. Service of the rear sway bar kit begins by disconnecting the 2 bolts and 2 nuts along with 2 No. 3 sway bar brackets from the suspension member. Complete the installation by removing the 2 sway bar bushes from the sway bar kit. Before applying the nuts to the ball joint you must flip the stud then rotate it five times backward and forward while using a torque wrench to extend the nut section between 2 to 4 seconds at each turn to check the torque on the fifth direction. The standard turning torque should remain under 1.0 Nm (10 kgf-cm, 8.7 inch lbs.) with no unusual movements or rattle detected and no dust cover leaks or visible deforms on the sway bar link LH. Begin stabilization by placing both sway bar bushes onto the sway bar kit while positioning the bush with the protruding point towards inside of the vehicle. Install the sway bar kit together with its 2 No. 3 sway bar brackets by tightening 2 bolts and 2 nuts to 35 Nm (357 kgf-cm, 26 ft. lbs.). Install the rear sway bar link assembly LH by tightening its 2 nuts up to 44 Nm (49 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.) while using a 5 mm hexagon wrench to stabilize the stud if the ball joint rotates with the nut. To finish the installation you must check the rear wheel alignment while performing the same steps on the sway bar link assembly RH.
