2007 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the clutch master cylinder on 2007 Scion tC?
A: Draining brake fluid should be your first step before servicing or repairing the clutch master cylinder with the additional procedure of washing off fluid from painted surfaces. You should first take out the brake master cylinder subassembly together with the brake booster assembly. You need to separate the clutch reservoir tube through clip loosening before you place a container below to capture the fluid. A user performs the next step by disconnecting the clutch master cylinder from its flexible hose tube by using Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 and collects fluid in a container. The exploitation of the clevis hole pin at the clutch master cylinder push rod requires removal of the clip and pin followed by removing the clutch master cylinder assembly through two nut disassembly. The disassembly process starts by removing the clutch master cylinder kit after tapping out its slotted spring pin with a pin punch followed by hammering and removing the inlet union and grommet and loosening the lock nut before taking off the clevis and lock nut from the push rod. After removing the cylinder body boot you should use pliers for snap rings to extract the snap ring while pushing the piston rod. Proceed by removing the push rod from the cylinder body while being careful not to let the piston exit. Take out the stop plate and push rod followed by removing the piston with spring as you keep the inside of cylinder body protected from damage. Lithium soap base glycol grease should be used to coat specified parts while installing the piston equipped with its spring into the cylinder before placing the stop plate correctly on the push rod before proceeding with push rod attachment to the cylinder body. Fit the snap ring to the cylinder body using the snap ring pliers when pushing on the piston rod. After this install the boot and finally lock the push rod with the nut. The procedure begins by mounting the clevis to the push rod with the lock nut but remove this linkage later for installation of the inlet union and new grommet along with the slotted spring pin. Fasten the clutch master cylinder assembly by tightening its 2 nuts until they reach a torque value of 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Use an MP grease on the hole pin contact surfaces before connecting the clutch pedal to the clevis through the hole pin (keep installation on the right vehicle side), then clamp the clevis in place with the clip. Use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to connect the clutch master cylinder to the flexible hose tube while torquing to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Afterward, join the clutch reservoir tube to the clutch master cylinder with the clip positioned with the red mark facing upward. The vehicle must receive the brake booster assembly and brake master cylinder subassembly followed by air bleeding from brake line and clutch pipe line until the brake reservoir contains appropriate brake fluid. Place 8.4 Nm (85 kgf-cm) torque on the clutch pipe line after you check and set the brake pedal height and conduct inspections of and adjustments on the clutch pedal subassembly. Conclude the procedure by inspecting brake fluid leakage from both systems and verifying the fluid reservoir contains the right amount of liquid.
