2007 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the ABS Control Module for Antilock Brakes on 2007 Scion tC?
A: A proper servicing and repairing process for the Hydraulic Control Assembly for Antilock Brakes starts by disconnecting the negative battery cable and waiting at least 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. Camp out the brake fluid and wash away any liquid touched painted surfaces in the process. Begin the hydraulic control assembly service by taking out the front right wheel then separating the hood to front end panel seal and front fender liners on both left and right sides and right headlight unit and front bumper cover. Use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to disconnect the six brake tubings from the actuator while marking their original positions. Dismantle the two bolts alongside the nut and actuator with bracket by avoiding contact with the brake tubes and wire harness. Eliminate the two brake actuator nuts and bracket from its mounting position. Start with two nuts that fix the brake actuator onto the bracket before tightening them to 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf). Next install the brake actuator with bracket onto two bolts and one nut while torquing them to 19 N.m (194 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf) securely connect the brake actuator connector during this step. Connect the six brake tubes to their intended positions on the actuator by using Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 and torque them to 14 N.m (145 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf) when using the tool and 15 N.m (155 kgf.cm, 11 ft.lbf) otherwise with a torque wrench set to a 30 cm (11.81 in.) fulcrum. Reposition the right headlight unit together with the front bumper cover along with both front fender liners before installing the hood to front end panel seal and front right wheel which requires 103 N.m (1,050 kgf.cm, 76 ft.lbf) torquing when mounting the wheel. First reconnect the negative battery cable before you start to add brake fluid into the reservoir then you need to remove air from the brake system including the brake master cylinder and brake line. Brake fluid reservoir inspections should be accompanied by leak searches while the brake actuator requires verification through an intelligent tester. Initiate headlight aim preparations before checking headlight aim and running the initialization process which demands system calibration when working with the negative battery terminal cable.
