  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster without VSC on 2006 Toyota Tacoma?
A: The first step to service and repair the vacuum brake booster requires disconnecting the negative cable from the battery and draining the brake fluid with proper surface cleaning of all paint areas. The service and repair of the vacuum brake booster without VSC requires removal of the front floor footrest and front door scuff plates from Regular Cab, Access Cab and Double Cab vehicles and the cowl side trim boards that match these cab types. Drivers of automatic transmission vehicles must remove the instrument panel under tray whereas vehicle owners with manual transmission should start by separating the instrument panel hole cover and finishing panel lower No. 1. The installation begins with disconnecting the vacuum hose and removing four nuts then extracting the brake booster which requires removal of the gasket. To install the brake booster, start by putting a new gasket onto the device followed by attaching the assembly using 4 nuts torqued to 14.2 Nm (145 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.) afterward connect the vacuum hose. The installation sequence requires you to mount the brake master cylinder push rod clevis without forgetting the hardware installation of the brake master cylinder reservoir followed by brake fluid addition and bleeding procedures on both the master cylinder and brake line. You must check the brake fluid level in the reservoir while looking for fluid leaks and checking brake pedal height and free play as well as reserve distance. The driver side junction block must be installed at 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.) followed by the instrument panel finish panel lower No. 1, instrument panel under tray for automatic transmission, instrument panel hole cover for manual transmission, cowl side trim boards for each cab type, front door scuff plates for each cab type, the front floor footrest and then reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal that requires 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 inch lbs.) torque.
