2007 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and replace the hydraulic brake booster on 2007 Toyota Tacoma?
A: The process of replacing the hydraulic brake booster requires users to maintain an OFF state on the ignition switch while performing more than 20 brake pedal depressions beforehand. Take the cable off the negative battery terminal while draining the brake fluid. Quick action should occur to wash off all fluid touching painted surfaces. The procedure requires removal of the front floor footrest and front door scuff plates for Regular Cab, Access Cab and Double Cab alongside the cowl side trim boards for each cab variety and the instrument panel under tray for Automatic Transmission as well as the instrument panel hole cover for Manual Transmission together with the instrument panel finish panel lower No. 1. Remove the hydraulic brake booster by disconnecting 3 connectors and using Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to remove and label the 4 brake lines before separating the driver side junction block from the master cylinder push rod clevis. Start by removing four booster retaining nuts before pulling out the hydraulic brake booster from the valve chamber and removing the brake booster gasket afterward. Apply a new brake booster gasket on the hydraulic brake booster before securing the 4 nuts at 14.2 Nm (145 kgf-cm, 10 ft. lbs.) torque. Finally, reconnect the 4 brake lines with Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 at 15.2 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs. torque. The installation requires connecting the 3 connectors and installing the master cylinder push rod clevis as well as torquing the driver side junction block to 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.). The technician should install the instrument panel finish panel lower No. 1, instrument panel under tray for Automatic Transmission, instrument panel hole cover for Manual Transmission, cowl side trim boards for each cab type, front door scuff plates for each cab type, and the front floor footrest. Complete the negative battery cable connection by torquing it to 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 inch lbs.) before checking brake pedal height along with free play and reserve distance. Then fill the reservoir with brake fluid while proceeding with brake booster bleeding using an accumulator pump assembly and collecting fluid from the brake line. Finally bleed the master cylinder solenoid and check reservoir fluid level and brake master cylinder operation and brake fluid leakage.
