2006 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2006 Toyota Sienna?
A: Start vacuum brake booster maintenance by taking off the front wheel then draining brake fluid while cleaning away any liquid touches that come into contact with paint. Start by disconnecting the battery negative terminal followed by removing the front door scuff plate LH and cowl side trim board LH (after removing its nut). Then detach the instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly lower LH with 2 bolts and separate the instrument panel safety pad insert sub-assembly No. 1 using 4 bolts. Use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to eliminate the brake actuator assembly (w/o VSC) together with the air cleaner assembly with hose and cowl top panel sub-assembly outer front from the system. The procedure for removing brake lines from VSC-equipped vehicles requires first taking off the ABS & traction actuator assembly then moving onto the brake lines (front brake tubes No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and rear brake tubes No. 1 and 2). The procedure to remove the brake booster push rod starts by removing the pin from it. The brake master cylinder assembly can be removed after sliding the clip to disconnect its vacuum hose and reservoir valve while removing 4 nuts and clevis to pull out the booster with master cylinder assembly. Initiate replacement of the brake vacuum check valve assembly, brake booster gasket, and also discard the check valve grommet. Check the brake vacuum check valve function by removing its parts and hose to see if ventilation flows from the engine into the booster and if there is no reverse flow; replace this component if faulty. The first installation step should begin with the brake vacuum check valve assembly plus check valve grommet and then proceed to adding the new brake booster gasket. Fit the brake master cylinder assembly with 4 nuts before torquing them to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) and then reattach the brake master cylinder reservoir hose as well as the vacuum hose. The installation process requires fitting the push rod pin followed by brake line installation and torquing them to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) for both the front and rear tubes. After using Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to reinstall the brake actuator assembly (w/o VSC), the technician proceeds to install the ABS & traction actuator assembly (w/ VSC), air cleaner assembly with hose, then fills the reservoir with brake fluid. The service technician needs to conduct a brake master cylinder bleed process along with brake line bleed before checking the brake fluid amount and inspecting brake fluid leak points. 1) Reinstall sub-assembly No. 1 of instrument panel safety pad insert through 4 bolts while installing the lower LH of instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly and the cowl side trim board LH with its nut, the front door scuff plate LH, and the cowl top panel sub-assembly outer front As the final step of this procedure install the front wheel while torquing it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) then perform checks on the brake pedal height and brake actuator using an intelligent tester.
