2006 Toyota Sequoia Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the timing belt on 2006 Toyota Sequoia?
A: The service procedure for the timing belt starts with disconnecting engine under cover No. 1 followed by draining engine coolant then removing the radiator assembly, throttle body cover, intake air connector assembly, and drive belt through the dismantling of the 4 nuts from the fluid coupling to the fan bracket. The first step entails fan bracket removal by removing its 4 nuts and then removing 3 PS pump bolts to suspend the pump properly. The work sequence involves removing the drive belt idler pulley followed by the RH No. 3 timing belt cover and then the LH No. 3 timing belt cover where engine wire and camshaft position sensor wire need to be disconnected and finally the No. 2 timing belt cover and A/C compressor and fan bracket. Test for timing belt install indicators while you prepare the crankshaft pulley bolt using Special Service Tool: 09213-70011 (90105-08076), 09330-00021 to align the No. 1 cylinder at Top Dead Center/Compression point. Utilize Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000) to disconnect the timing belt from the camshaft timing pulleys before removing the components comprising camshaft timing pulleys, generator, drive belt tensioner, crankshaft pulley, No. 1 timing belt cover, timing belt guide, timing belt cover spacer, and timing belt. Apply a 10 mm hexagon wrench to remove both the No. 1 idler pulley and No. 2 idler pulley from the engine assembly. Resulting installation procedure specifies using Special Service Tool: 09223-46011 to align the crankshaft timing pulley before installing it and subsequent steps involving installation of No. 2 idler pulley and No. 1 idler pulley with adhesive (Part No. 08833-00080, THREE BOND 1344, LOCTITE 242 or equivalent) where proper torque specifications have to be maintained. The procedure requires installing the timing belt momentarily before placing in the timing belt cover spacer and then the timing belt guide and No. 1 timing belt cover. The procedure requires alignment of the crankshaft pulley and tapping it into position followed by drive belt tensioner installation and generator fitting and crankshaft pulley position check. Both camshaft timing pulleys must connect to the timing belt using Service Tool 09960-10010 and its variants 09962-01000 and 09963-01000 while setting the timing belt tensioner. Sequence valve timing by rotating the crankshaft pulley and verify timing marks while utilizing Special Service Tool: 09213-70011 (90119-08216), 09330-00021 to tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt. Install the fan bracket while tightening the A/C compressor and No. 2 timing belt cover and both RH and LH No. 3 timing belt covers according to the specified torque values. The installation process concludes by adding the drive belt idler pulley and PS pump before installing the drive belt alongside fluid coupling and fan elements and fan pulley components which is followed by an intake air connector and throttle body cover along with the radiator assembly and engine coolant filling step and engine start to check for leaks before reattaching the Engine Under Cover No. 1.
