The first step to remove the timing belt from the 2UZ-FE engine requires you to remove the cable from the negative battery terminal with a minimum wait time of 90 seconds for SRS system disablement. First remove the No. 1 engine under cover then drain the engine coolant before taking off the throttle body cover sub-assembly. Remove the air cleaner assembly at first with its air cleaner hose and afterwards remove both inlet and outlet radiator hoses. Engine owners with a trailer towing system need to remove the fan shroud while users without the system can proceed without removing this component. Unfasten the cooler compressor assembly by detaching its connector then taking out 3 bolts along with the nut and No. 1 compressor stay. The vane pump assembly can be separated by disconnecting the connector and removing the 2 bolts but keep the hoses suspended instead of detaching them. You must first remove the generator assembly and disconnect the oil cooler pipe by taking out its nut and bolt then disconnect the 3 water by-pass hoses. After the removal of the No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly technicians must separate the engine wire from four clamps before disconnecting the camshaft position sensor plug and extracting the wire harness grommet to remove the No. 2 timing chain or belt cover and No. 3 timing belt cover sub-assembly LH. The removal process requires Special Service Tools: 09213-70011, 09213-70020, 09950-50013, and 09951-05010 for the removal of the No. 2 timing belt cover sub-assembly, V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly, fan bracket sub-assembly, and crankshaft damper sub-assembly. Start the procedure by unlatching and removing the No. 1 timing belt cover together with the timing gear cover spacer and the No. 1 crankshaft position sensor plate. Align the timing marks by installing the pulley set bolt first then rotating the crankshaft clockwise until the No. 1 cylinder reaches TDC compression position. To remove the components apply a 10 mm hexagon wrench on the No. 1 timing belt idler sub-assembly after you detach the timing belt, timing belt tensioner and dust boot bolts. Take out the No. 2 timing belt idler sub-assembly.
