2006 Toyota RAV4 Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the Rear No. 1 Control Arm on 2006 Toyota RAV4?
A: Begin the repair and servicing task on Rear No. 1 Suspension Arm by taking off the rear wheel. The process starts with supporting the left side No. 2 suspension arm before removing its bolt and 2 nuts from the suspension member and axle carrier. Loosen the bolt on the suspension member first yet keep the nut in position. After disconnecting the arm from the axle carrier through tool 09610-20012 you should handle the dust cover with caution to avoid damaging it. Before bolting the nut onto the Rear No. 1 Suspension Arm LH, move the ball joint stud front to back 5 times. Then apply torque to the nut using a wrench while rotating it at a rate of 2 to 4 seconds per turn to obtain the fifth torque reading with a standard turning torque of 3.4 Nm (35 kgf-cm, 30 inch lbs.). The ball joint dust cover needs inspection for both fractures and grease leakage. The installation process starts with installing the suspension arm onto the suspension member and the axle carrier using the bolt and 2 nuts while keeping it temporarily secured then proceed to install and tighten the rear wheel to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). The installation of the Rear No. 1 Suspension Arm Assembly LH requires the nut and two bolts to be tightened to 90 Nm (918 kgf-cm/ 66 ft. lbs.) for the bolt and 100 Nm (1,020 kgf-cm/ 74 ft. lbs.) for the nut while avoiding nut tightening on the rear suspension member side. The last step involves checking and modifying the alignment of the rear wheels.
