2006 Toyota RAV4 Control Arm Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the Control Arm in the front suspension on 2006 Toyota RAV4?
A: Start the Front Suspension Lower No. 1 Arm service and repair by taking off the front wheel along with the hood sub-assembly. The engine needs suspension through hanger installation of both No. 1 and No. 2 units with 38 Nm torques (387 kgf-cm, 28 ft. lbs.) followed by engine attachment of sling devices and chain blocks. The first step involves disconnecting stabilizer links from both sides of the front assembly followed by removing lower front No.1 arm sub-assemblies on both sides through removal of ball joint connecting hardware. Remove two nuts, two bolts and one engine mounting insulator rear from the front crossmember sub-assembly before supporting it with a jack and extracting its labeled bolts. The jack procedure should be done gradually until the crossmember establishes free movement from the vehicle frame. The lower arm sub-assemblies on both sides must be removed by deleting the bolts and nuts from the suspension member. It starts with attaching the lower arms to the vehicle temporarily on each side and then using Special Service Tool: 09670-00010 to install the front crossmember sub-assembly through hole alignment while raising it. Mount the member reinforcement with its suspension member brace along with specified bolts and finally attach the suspension member to the vehicle body while installing the engine mounting insulator rear. Before installation use the front stabilizer link assembly on the left side to join both the 2 bolts and nut which require a torque of 92 Nm (938 kgf-cm, 68 ft. lbs.) for the lower arm sub-assembly on that same side. Follow these steps to install the front wheel before tightening it to 103 Nm while stabilizing suspension and tightening front crossmember sub-assembly bolts and nuts to 87 Nm. Use Special Service Tool: 09961-01270 to tighten the front suspension lower No. 1 arm sub-assembly on the left side to 223 Nm (2,376 kgf-cm, 172 ft. lbs.) without using the tool or 175 Nm (1,785 kgf-cm, 129 ft. lbs.) using the tool while avoiding tightening the nut. Fasten the nut in position while avoiding nut tightening but securing the rear bolt at 223 Nm (2,376 kgf-cm, 172 ft. lbs.). Tighten the front suspension lower No. 1 arm sub-assembly on the right side according to the same specification. After finishing install the hood sub-assembly the technician needs to check and adjust it and inspect and make adjustments to the front wheel alignment.
