2006 Toyota Prius Brake Light Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Brake Light Switch on 2006 Toyota Prius?
A: Service of the braking sensor/switch begins with removing the No. 1 instrument panel register assembly and the lower instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly. Begin by disconnecting the sensor connector followed by removing the brake pedal stroke sensor assembly through the removal of its two bolts. The installation process for a new brake pedal stroke sensor requires attachment to the brake pedal support by two bolts that must reach 9.3 N.m of torque (95 kgf.cm, 82 in.lbf) while the sensor lever should fit the brake pedal groove and you should check the sensor contacting surfaces for foreign substances. Push the brake pedal with strong force to destroy the sensor lever set pin. After removing the broken pin you can reconnect the sensor connector. The reinstalled brake pedal stroke sensor needs to be fitted manually onto the brake pedal support using its 2 bolts. The sensor lever should properly engage the brake pedal groove and both contact surfaces need to be free from any foreign materials. The intelligent tester requires linkage to DLC3 followed by sensor connector attachment. Use the power switch ON (IG) and measure stroke sensor 1 value and adjust it to standard 0.8 to 1.2 V by rotating the sensor right and left before securely tightening the 2 bolts to 9.3 N.m (95 kgf.cm, 82 in.lbf) making sure to avoid braking pedal activation. The system needs to be initialized before reinstalling the lower instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly followed by installation of the No. 1 instrument panel register assembly.
