Switch Assembly, Stop Lamp

The first step in replacing the brake light switch requires you to remove front door scuff plate LH and cowl side trim sub-assembly LH. The next step demands removal of the lower instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly that exists inside the Manual or Automatic Air Conditioning System configuration. The first step requires disconnecting the stop light switch assembly connector then loosening the stop light switch lock nut and finally removing the stop light switch assembly.

Service of the brake light switch begins with disconnecting negative battery cable and waiting at least 90 seconds to avoid triggering Air Bags and seat belt pretensioners. The following step requires you to take out the stop light switch assembly. Installation begins with attaching the stop light switch assembly followed by reattaching the negative battery terminal cable and performing initialization whose requirement depends on systems which need cable connection and disconnection from the negative battery terminal.

Install the lower instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly for the Automatic Air Conditioning System.

Install the front door scuff plate LH.

Attach it to the brake pedal support with the 2 bolts, ensuring a torque of 9.3 N.m (95 kgf.cm, 82 in.lbf), engage the sensor lever with the brake pedal groove, and check for any foreign matter on the sensor's contacting surface.

Connect a hand-held tester to the DLC3, then connect the brake pedal stroke sensor connector and turn the power switch on (IG).

Torque the bolts to 9.3 Nm (95 kgf-cm, 82 in-lbf).

Tighten the bolts to 9.3 Nm (95 kgf-cm, 82 inch lbs.), ensuring not to depress the brake pedal after turning the power switch on (IG).

Attach the sensor to the brake pedal support using the 2 bolts, ensuring a torque of 9.3 N.m (95 kgf.cm, 82 in.lbf), engage the sensor lever with the brake pedal groove, and check for any foreign matter on the sensor's contacting surface.
