2005 Toyota Prius Brake Light Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Brake Light Switch on 2005 Toyota Prius?
A: The procedures to install a new brake pedal stroke sensor begin with disconnecting the instrument panel register assembly No.1 as well as removing the instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly lower. At first disconnect the brake pedal stroke sensor connector followed by bolt removal from its mounting position. Attach the new brake pedal stroke sensor to the brake pedal support by fastening its two bolts to 9.3 Nm torque (95 kgf-cm, 82 inch lbs.). Additionally, verify that the brake pedal stroke sensor lever engages properly with the brake pedal groove and that no foreign materials exist on the contacting surfaces. Use forceful brake pedal pressure to bend the lever set pin loose for pin removal before joining both ends of the brake pedal stroke sensor connector. Install the brake pedal stroke sensor with the two bolts while keeping its lever engaged and check that the contact surface remains clear. Use a hand-held tester on the DLC3 interface before connecting the brake pedal stroke sensor connector and activating the power switch to IG. Rotate the stroke sensor from right to left to achieve a data monitor reading of 0.8 to 1.2 Volts. Secure the sensor bolts to 9.3 Nm while keeping the brake pedal from contacting the floor after enabling power (IG). System initialization will be finished after reinstallation of the instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly lower along with instrument panel register assembly No.1.
