2004 Toyota Prius Brake Light Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Brake Light Switch on 2004 Toyota Prius?
A: The replacement process of the Brake Pedal Stroke Sensor Assembly requires removal of the Instrument Panel Register Assy No.1 and the Instrument Panel Finish Panel Sub-Assy Lower. Start with disconnecting the brake pedal stroke sensor connector before unbolting its support with two fasteners. Instal a new brake pedal stroke sensor by attaching it to the brake pedal support through the two bolts which require a torque of 9.3 Nm (95 kgf-cm, 82 inch lbs.) while you check that the sensor lever fits the brake pedal groove and inspect both surfaces for foreign materials. The installation process starts by breaking the set pin using forceful brake pedal operation and removing the pin before attaching the pedal stroke sensor connector. Install the brake pedal stroke sensor only when testing with the two bolts while maintaining the lever within the groove alignment during checks for foreign matter. Use a hand-held tester on the DLC3 to connect the sensor connector before turning on the power switch (IG). Adjust the stroke sensor along each direction until the display reaches 0.8 to 1.2 Volts then apply 9.3 Nm (95 kgf-cm, 82 inch lbs.) bolt torque and avoid breaking the brake pedal when turning on the ignition. System initialization should be performed followed by reinstallation of the Instrument Panel Finish Panel Sub-Assy Lower and the Instrument Panel Register Assy No.1.
