2006 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the water pump on 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Services and repairs on the water pump need to begin by disconnecting the negative terminal cable from the battery during a minimum 90-second waiting period to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. Begin water pump service by removing the No. 1 engine under cover followed by draining the engine coolant and then disassembling the V-bank cover sub-assembly along with the intake air connector pipe, cooler compressor assembly along with the drive belt and radiator assembly, the oil cooler pipe and timing belt and the No. 2 timing belt idler pulley sub-assembly. Cleaning up the process starts with disconnecting the water by-pass hose from the water inlet housing followed by removing two bolts attaching the water inlet housing to the water pump where the water inlet housing gets disconnected from the front water by-pass joint before the water pump assembly removal procedure which requires removal of five bolts, two stud bolts, nut, water pump, and gasket and finish by removing the O-ring from the water by-pass pipe. The water pump assembly requires inspection for coolant leakage while also ensuring that the bearing operates without trouble. Replacement of the water pump assembly may be needed under these conditions. An inspection of the fan bracket sub-assembly should reveal smooth operation of the pulleys and the assembly needs replacement in case of failure. You should install a new O-ring onto the water by-pass pipe end then apply soapy water before connecting the water pump and installing it with a new gasket using the five bolts and two stud bolts and one nut according to torque specifications of 21 Nm for bolts and 18 Nm for the nut and stud bolts. Seal packing (Part No. 08826-00100) must be applied to the sealing groove of the water inlet housing before installing a new O-ring on its surface and soaking it with soapy water before connecting it to the front water by-pass joint tube. Two bolts need to be installed on the water inlet and housing assembly then tightened to 18 Nm. After fixing the No. 2 timing belt idler pulley sub-assembly with 34.5 Nm torque you should install the timing belt then add the oil cooler pipe alongside the radiator assembly and drive belt before adding the cooler compressor assembly and intake air connector pipe and V-bank cover sub-assembly. Engine coolant intake must occur before adding the engine under cover and reattaching the cable to the negative battery terminal and system initialization and engine coolant leak detection follow.
