The Water Pump of Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles is one of the essential parts that help pump water from the radiator to the engine to help absorb heat developed during combustion. Today's automobiles have aluminum water pumps and their work is done by a rotating shaft equipped with an impeller to circulate the coolant. Signs of a bad water pump include grinding noises due to worn bearings, signs of coolant leaks, and, the engine overheating. There is an improved and modified design of water pumps for increased coolant circulation and these include the OEMs special cast iron housings and authentic aluminum fabricated water pumps. Electric water pumps are on the rise making other features like parasitic loss and coolant circulation that can be selective according to the temperature of the engine.

Toyota Land Cruiser Water Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the water pump on Toyota Land Cruiser?
    A:
Service and repair of the water pump requires coolant draining followed by Timing Belt removal before completing the procedure with No.2 idler pulley removal. To begin service and repair of the water pump you must first disconnect the water bypass hose from the water inlet housing followed by removing 2 bolts from the water inlet housing to water pump attachment. From there disconnect the housing from the front water bypass joint and remove the water inlet assembly while also extracting the O-ring from water inlet housing. First remove the water pump by unbolting its five fasteners and two stud bolts, nut and gasket components, and take away the O-ring from the water bypass pipe. The water pump requires replacement together with the timing belt whenever coolant leakage is found at the air hole or the water hole during inspection. The pulley turning process should reveal a smooth and quiet operation of the water pump bearing which requires replacing if any issues occur. Examine all components of the timing belt before starting the installation sequence. Install the water bypass pipe O-ring with new soapy water then connect the water pump to the water bypass pipe end using 5 bolts and 2 stud bolts and a new nut followed by a multi-step uniform tightening process with 21 Nm (215 kgf cm) torque for bolts and 18 Nm (185 kgf cm) for stud bolts and nut while using 35 mm (1.38 inch). The water inlet and inlet housing assembly requires users to eliminate old packing material FIPG before cleaning components and applying equivalent sealing packing (Part No. 08826-00100) to the water inlet housing groove within five application minutes. Place a new O-ring onto the water inlet housing before adding soapy water to it. Finally install the water inlet housing by attaching it to the front water bypass joint hole and tighten the two bolts to 18 Nm (185 kgf cm, 13 ft. lbs.) torque. Place the No.2 idler pulley along with the timing belt before filling the engine coolant and starting the engine to check for leaks and verifying the engine coolant level.
  • Q: How to remove the water pump on Toyota Land Cruiser?
    A:
The first step to replace the water pump requires removal of the front fender splash shield sub-assembly from both sides. The technician should drain the engine coolant after removing the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly. Perform the water pump replacement by removing the V-bank cover sub-assembly and afterward the air cleaner hose assembly and the air cleaner assembly. The first step is to remove the No. 1 and No. 2 radiator hoses before taking off the fan shroud. The first step is to disconnect the No. 1 water by-pass hose as well as the No. 2 water by-pass pipe sub-assembly through the No. 6 water by-pass hose disconnect and bolt removal and subsequent water by-pass pipe separation with its water hose. Continue taking out the water inlet housing by disconnecting the number two and number three air hoses and air pump connector while also separating the associated air pump clamp holder and wire harness using a clip remover followed by disconnecting water by-pass hose number five and air tube bracket bolt and hose number three. Finish with removing three bolts and gasket with the water inlet housing. You can use Special Service Tools: 09960-10010 and 09962-01000 and 09963-01000 to maintain grip on the pulley before you uninstall its 4 bolts and the pulley itself. The last step involves removing all components of the water pump assembly by extracting its 8 bolts and water pump and gasket.
