2006 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the thermostat on 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Agents should start servicing the thermostat by removing the No. 1 engine under cover followed by draining engine coolant. Start by detaching the water inlet through the removal of 3 nuts and subsequent dismissal of both the water inlet and its gasket. You should remove the thermostat from the water inlet and afterward remove the gasket. Test the thermostat in water while heating it slowly until its valve opening temperature reaches 80 to 84 degrees Celsius (176 to 183 degrees Fahrenheit); if the thermostat fails this test it needs replacement. The valve should demonstrate a lift of at least 10 mm (0.39 inch) at 95 degrees Celsius (203 degrees Fahrenheit) while exhibiting complete valve closure at temperatures below 40 degrees Celsius (104degrees Fahrenheit ); get a new thermostat when these specifications are not achieved. You should install the new gasket on the thermostat while aligning the jiggle valve upward before placing the thermostat inside the water inlet housing. The proper position for the valve requires orientation between 30 degrees of the specified markings on both sides. Reinstall the water inlet while using 3 nuts, torquing them to reach 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). Afterward, add engine coolant and check for leaks before installing the No. 1 under cover.
