2006 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake master cylinder on 2006 Toyota Highlander?
A: The first step to service and repair the brake master cylinder involves disconnecting the front suspension sub-assembly upper center by unfastening the 4 nuts together with the front suspension brace. Service on the 2AZ-FE engine requires removal of the air cleaner assembly while the 3MZ-FE engine requires uninstalling the air cleaner cap sub-assembly together with the air cleaner filter element sub-assembly followed by the air cleaner case. Use a suitable method to drain the brake fluid before carefully cleaning all paint-contacted areas. Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 helps disconnect two brake tubes prior to unatching the brake fluid level warning switch connector and taking out the two nuts along with the check valve bracket. The mechanic should inspect and adjust the brake booster push rod while testing for brake booster vacuum by cycling the brake pedal several times when the engine is off. Measure the brake booster assembly clearance by placing chalk on an accessory tool against it which should be 0 mm (0 inch). Correct the push rod length using Special Service Tool: 09737-00020(s) when the clearance measurement is not at specification. First install the brake master cylinder sub-assembly along with the check valve bracket while tightening 2 nuts to 13 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.), then use Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 to hook up the 2 brake tubes with a torque setting of 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) and reconnect the brake fluid level warning switch connector. Pour the brake fluid reservoir afterward performing a master cylinder bleed procedure together with brake fluid line and brake actuator assembly bleeds. Place the air cleaner assembly followed by the air cleaner case and air cleaner filter element sub-assembly (for 3MZ-FE) along with air cleaner cap sub-assembly (for 3MZ-FE). The front suspension brace sub-assembly upper center must be installed with 4 nuts which require a torque of 80 Nm (816 kgf-cm, 59 ft. lbs.). Subsequently check the brake fluid reservoir for leakage and fluid level.
