2006 Toyota Highlander A/C Clutch Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the A/C Clutch on 2006 Toyota Highlander?
A: The first step in servicing and repairing the compressor clutch demands refrigerant discharge from the refrigeration system. Unfasten bolts A, B and C on the V (cooler compressor to crankshaft pulley) belt No. 1 to remove it. The service proceeds with generator assembly removal after disconnecting cooler hose No. 1 by taking out its nut with O-ring and vinyl-taping both ends to stop moisture and foreign matter intrusion. Continue this hose removal procedure for the cooler refrigerant suction hose No. 1. Disconnect the connector then take out the nut before using an E8 torque socket wrench to extract the stud bolt and then continuing with the three bolts for complete compressor and magnetic clutch separation. Secure the compressor along with magnetic clutch by installing the study bolt and three bolts and nut without overtightening until they achieve solid installation. Start by compressing the compressor's rear side before torquing bolts B, C, A and the nut in succession until completion. Finally reconnect the connector. Apply compressor oil (ND-OIL 8 or equivalent) to the surfaces of the fit and O-ring of cooler refrigerant suction hose No.1 before installing the new O-ring with a torque of 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf). Perform this operation again for the cooler refrigerant discharge hose No. 1. After installing the V belt as a temporary step you should put back the generator assembly. The system requires charging of refrigerant followed by engine warm-up before checking for refrigerant loss.
