2007 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and replace the A/C Clutch on 2007 Toyota Highlander?
A: The first task to remove and replace 2AZ-FE's compressor and magnetic clutch includes discharging refrigerant from the refrigeration system. First loosen bolt A then bolt B and bolt C that secure the V (cooler compressor to crankshaft pulley) belt No.1 before moving on to remove the belt. Evacuate refrigerant from the cooler system and remove generator parts before taking off discharge hose No.1 by its nut and O-ring and covering exposed ends with vinyl tape for protection. Perform this procedure on cooler refrigerant suction hose No.1 also. The process of removing the compressor and magnetic clutch requires disconnecting the connector then removing the nut followed by the use of an E8 torque socket wrench on the stud bolt before proceeding to uninstall the three bolts which secure the compressor and magnetic clutch. Secure the compressor and magnetic clutch using the stud bolt and three bolts along with the nut by initial tightening but do not exceed proper torque until complete installation. Tighten bolts B, C, A one by one before the nut while pressing the compressor's rear side until secure and reattach the connector. The installation process of cooler refrigerant suction hose No.1 begins with tape removal followed by oil application on the O-ring and fit surface and new O-ring installation using a nut torque of 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf). Repetition of this procedure must be performed on cooler refrigerant discharge hose No.1. First put on the V belt before reinstalling the generator assembly. The technician should finish by charging the system before warming up the engine while thoroughly checking for any refrigerant leaks.
