Q: How to Replace the Crankshaft Seal in a Timing Chain or Belt Cover on 2006 Toyota Corolla?
A: The procedure to replace the timing chain or belt cover oil seal (1ZZ-FE) requires removal of the engine under cover RH, the front wheel RH together with the fan and generator V belt and the engine mounting insulator RH followed by use of Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000) for the crankshaft pulley removal. The oil seal removal procedure requires cutting the lip with a knife and prying it out using a screwdriver taped for protection while you should inspect for crankshaft damage and smooth rough areas with 400-grit sandpaper. Install the new oil seal by applying multi-purpose grease to its lip while maintaining object foreignness then using Special Service Tool: 09223-22010 to tap it with a hammer until it reaches the timing chain cover edge in a vertical position. Normalize the extraction of any excess grease from the crankshaft. Apply multi-purpose grease to the lip of a new oil seal before you install the crankshaft pulley using Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-01000). Next install the engine mounting insulator RH followed by the front wheel RH. When installing torque the wheel to 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Finally check for engine oil leakage.
